FAQ's KSR Fall 2020

Courses and Exams

What if my course has an in person lecture, lab, or seminar but I cannot access the course in person?
Alternative delivery models will be made available to those who cannot attend the in person component. The Faculty/instructor will follow up with specific instructions later in the summer.
Will each class have the set time as is posted on Bear Tracks or will there be videos uploaded with self-directed learning?
Courses offered synchronously may have lectures recorded to review later. Some courses will be taught asynchronously to allow for various time zones, which means although you have a "time" for class, you can access it at a time best suited to your schedule and time zone. Instructors will have specific details as to how their course will be taught, and will share with students as they become available. If synchronous tests are on the syllabus, please contact your instructor.
What grading scheme will be used in the Fall?
Courses will be graded using the letter grades going forward, not NC/CR. If a course was previously CR/NC (ie practicum), it will remain that way.
What technology do I need to be successful with remote learning?
Computing recommendations can be found here.
Any word on the plans for Winter 2021 yet?
The University of Alberta anticipates confirming the core structure of the Winter 2021 semester before the end of October.
Are there resources available to students for online learning?
Online and remote learning is not new to the U of A but we know that it may be new to you. To prepare for the fall, check out tips for success and find out more about the various online platforms that your instructors may use to deliver your courses. Information and Service Technologies (IST) has a Learning Remotely section to help students.

Will the Fall 2020 Convocation ceremony be held in person or online?
Fall Convocation 2020 is presently scheduled for November 18, 2020. Should this need to change due to COVID-19, students will be notified later in the summer.
How do I find information about planning for future Graduate programs like Physical or Occupational Therapy?
The Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine has excellent information regarding their admission requirements. It is important for students to check their website often, as admission requirements can change
Can I take the Fall term off and come back in Winter term?
There are many things to consider if you are wanting to take the fall term off. This includes impact on awards or scholarships, study permits, student loans, academic standing requirements, course sequencing and course availability. In addition, think about what you would do if the Winter term moved online as well. Please contact your Academic Advisor (ksradvisors@ualberta.ca) if you have any questions.

Orientation/Social:

What will orientation look like in the Fall?
We will be inviting students to participate in an online eClass course to help orient them to the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation while simultaneously giving them an opportunity to explore the online learning platform of the University of Alberta. Students can expect access to this course to be opened in early August, with more details on an online presentation to welcome them to the Faculty in late August.
How can KSR students connect with other students in the Faculty?
KSR students will be able to more easily connect with other students through smaller portions of their courses such as labs and seminars. Additionally, the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Student Society is looking for feedback from students on what types of social events they would prefer to participate in during online studies.
How will students be able to access the Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation Student Society (KSRSS)?
Students can access KSRSS visiting here or by emailing them at ksrss@ualberta.ca
