In your opinion, what makes this faculty unique?
I think the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation is unique because it is small enough that it is easy to make great connections with lots of students and faculty members which can be more difficult in a larger faculty.
Why did you choose the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation for your undergraduate degree?
Being very active throughout my childhood and loving to understand why things happen, I was attracted to the Faculty because of its pursuit to understand the science of how the body moves through space.
What attracted you to your program?
I was inspired by the coaches I had throughout high school to pursue a career in Education so that I could positively impact my students the way my coaches impacted me.
What is the most rewarding thing about being an undergraduate student in the faculty?
The most rewarding part of my undergraduate experience in the Faculty is definitely the quality of friendships that I have made. From Rookie Camp, relaxing in VVC between classes, and the Kinesiology Games, I have made tons of friends in my time on campus!
Can you give an example of a memorable experience while in the faculty?
My most memorable experience as a student in Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation is, without a doubt, being able to attend the Kinesiology Games for the last 5 years! I have made countless friendships, including some that I know will last me a lifetime. I count myself so lucky to be able to say that I have established a network of friendships across the country with people who are passionate about the same things as I am. I am also very thankful to have the opportunity to host the Kinesiology Games in March 2018 at the University of Alberta!
What advice would you give someone who is considering applying to the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation?
My biggest piece of advice to new students is: "You're only going to be here once, so make the most of it! Get involved, use your time well, and learn as much as you can. Even if it means staying around a bit longer."
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I have no idea where I will be in five years. I came here 6 years ago excited to be a teacher and now I am looking at what other things I can do with my degree. I am currently a Student Events Coordinator with the Students' Union which has given me lots of experience with Event Planning and the opportunity to utilize my degree to develop learning outcomes for our volunteer programs! I love working with new students, so I could see certainly see myself continuing to work on Campus!
