Please join us at 4 pm on October 1st at the 2 Tory Breezeway for a lecture by Roman Shiyan entitled "Understanding 'Resistance' in the Context of Ukrainian Studies" The 'Black Council' and Challenging Authority in Early Modern Ukraine."

Roman I. Shiyan received his MA in History from Arkansas State University (USA, 1995), the Specialist Diploma in History from Zaporizhzhia National University (Ukraine, 1996) and the PhD in Ukrainian Folklore from the University of Alberta (Canada, 2006). He is an author and co-author of two books and several articles on the history of Ukrainian Cossacks during the late 18th century. Recent research of Dr. Shiyan deals with Ukraine's early-modern and modern popular and elite culture and the place of Cossacks in it.
