SSHRC information webinar summarizes changes to Insight Grants competition

SSHRC recently held webinars to give a comprehensive overview of its Insight Grants funding opportunity, including recent updates and useful information and tips for applicants.

14 September 2015

Some highlights of these recent changes:

• Collaborators no longer need to provide CVs.
• Notice of intent is not required.
• Research-creation projects will be adjudicated by a fine arts committee, which will include members selected by Canada Council.
Preparing an IG research creation application document is now available in the Resource Centre.

Due to increasing budget pressure, SSHRC has adopted the principle of 'minimum essential funding', and the maximum total award is now reduced to $400,000 ($100,000/year). In May 2015, SSHRC launched new initiatives to support Aboriginal research and talent development. An Aboriginal research statement of principles will guide the implementation of SSHRC's current and future initiatives, and a revised definition of Aboriginal research clarifies research by and with Aboriginal peoples and emphasizes and values the existing strengths, assets and knowledge systems of Aboriginal Peoples and communities. Guidelines for the Merit Review of Aboriginal Research are intended to assist committee members in interpreting SSHRC's specific Challenge, Feasibility and Capability evaluation criteria in the context of Aboriginal research.
