Welcome to the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, a leading global institution of legal education and research and one of Canada's most prestigious law schools. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – home to a spectacular river valley and a plethora of festivals – UAlberta Law has been at the forefront of legal scholarship in Canada for more than 100 years, fostering generations of thought leaders. Our faculty is at the forefront of legal research and scholarship in Canada, and our students are among some of the country’s brightest learners.
My focus as Dean is to preserve the best of our past while preparing students for a challenging future in a dynamic profession. This includes:
- Ensuring top quality curriculum
- Attracting and retaining outstanding Faculty
- Investing in frontline student services
- Fostering student mental health and wellness
- Supporting inclusiveness and diversity
Each of these priorities is driven by a desire to ensure that our students receive a transformative law school experience at the University of Alberta, one that prepares them to make their mark not only in the legal profession, but also in the community.
Our students are a diverse group, and we celebrate and value this diversity – of race, gender, Indigenous status, sexual orientation, religion or place of origin. The entering class this year ranges in age from 20 to 50, representing 41 post-secondary institutions across North America and the world. These law students include members of the military, coaches, parents, activists and athletes, with one common denominator: excellence. Our students also come from a range of financial backgrounds, and we make it a priority to help lower financial barriers to a law school education by more than one million in scholarships and bursaries every year.
We look forward to helping you explore the University of Alberta Faculty of Law.
