  • Director Alberta Investment Management Corporation A Crown Corporation that invests funds both for the Alberta government (endowment funds) and for public sector pension plans
  • 2008 – Bought Edmonton Oilers for $200 million
  • 2012 On Forbes World Billionaire List - #634 out of 1,226 and 15th out of 26 Canadians

Philanthropy includes:

  • 2006 – Seven million dollar donation to the University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Law; matched by the Province the donation was the largest to a Canadian pharmacy school
  • 2 million of this donation has been allocated to the new Katz Group Chair in Health Law, a unique position within the Faculty of Law that will provide interdisciplinary leadership in the health law field. The Katz Group Chair will provide an important link between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • The west wing of the Health Research Innovation Facility at the University of Alberta has been named The Katz Group Centre for Pharmacy and Health Research
  • Generous donor to the Alberta Art Gallery and to the Stollery Children’s Hospital at University Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta
