  • 1962 – Graduated Faculty of Law, University of Alberta
  • 1972 Founded real estate investment firm - The McLean Group. 1972 - 2012 this family business has grown from Real Estate Investment to a conglomerate that includes: an active Film & Television Production business (Vancouver Film Studios & Pacific Backlot Services) which collectively form the largest grossing supplier of production services to Vancouver’s film and television industry.
    • Other businesses include: Communications (Signal Systems);
    • Construction (Harbour Landing Construction);
    • Aviation (Blackcomb Aviation) a helicopter, jet charter & aircraft management company
  • 1985 Left a successful law practice and became the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of The MacLean Group
  • 1995 – Led privatization of CNR (CNR was a Crown Corporation at that time)
  • This was the largest Initial Public Offering in Canadian history at that time.
  • 1994 – 2010 Chairman of the Board of CNR/CN
  • 2010 – Stepped down as CEO of The MacLean Group in favour of his son Jason MacLean
