Abstract Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts must be submitted electronically using the online abstract submission portal;
  • An individual may submit more than one (1) abstract;
  • If submitting more than one abstract, each one must be submitted separately;
  • Abstracts must describe original, previously unpublished work;
  • Edits to submitted abstracts may be made up until the submission deadline (May 19, 2021 @ 5 p.m. MT); instructions for making edits can be found on the submission site;
  • Scheduling of oral and poster sessions is at the discretion of the Symposium Organizing Committee;
  • Abstracts will be organized into sessions using the themes chosen by the submitter;
    • The Committee will do their best to use the theme(s) chosen by the submitter; however, they reserve the right to reassign the theme if necessary.

Abstract Types

During the online abstract submission, authors will be requested to select their preferred method of presentation: Oral presentation only, Oral/Poster presentation or Poster presentation only. Presentation method preferences will be considered during the review process.

Session Themes (Topics)

Themes (topics) for each of the sessions are listed below. Please select all of the applicable themes for the abstract being submitted:

  • Viral Pathogenesis
  • Vaccines & Diagnostics
  • Antivirals
  • Host-Pathogen Interactions / Immune Responses
  • Pandemic Preparedness

The abstract review committee reserves the right to reassign submitted abstracts to a different session.

Abstract Formatting Guidelines

Please adhere to the following formatting guidelines when submitting your abstract for the symposium. Abstracts that are not correctly formatted will not be reviewed.

  • The abstract must be 1 page maximum (including title, authors and institution(s));
  • Figures or tables are not permitted with abstract;
  • All abstracts should be written with Calibri 12-point font;
  • Normal margins (2.54 cm) all around (i.e.: top, bottom, left and right sides);
  • There is no restriction on your abstract structure, but we recommended the following:
    • Title (in bold, but do not capitalize all the letters)
    • Author(s) – presenter’s name must be underlined
    • Institution affiliation(s)
    • Background
    • Purpose
    • Method(s)
    • Result(s)
    • Conclusion(s)
  • Please use standard abbreviations. Place special or unusual abbreviations in parenthesis after the full word when it appears for the first time;
  • Errors, misspellings, and incorrect abbreviations will not be corrected;
  • The abstract must be submitted in PDF format.

Notification of Acceptance

Presenting authors (whether oral or poster deliveries) will be notified of their acceptance status between June 1 – 4, 2021. Presenting authors must inform any co-author(s) of acceptance. The organizing committee reserves the right to accept or decline any submissions and to select the presentation format (oral or poster).

Disclaimer Regarding the Submission of Abstracts

The Symposium Organizing Committee will not be held responsible for abstract submissions not received via the submission portal nor for submission errors caused by internet service outages, hardware or software delays, power outages or unforeseen events.
