Zooming in on Covid-19 and Other Viral Diseases Virtual Symposium, June 22-24

Welcome to the LKSIoV/Gairdner Virtual Virology Symposium!

This free virtual symposium is focused on highlighting the most recent research on SARS-CoV-2 and other viral pathogens. This national conference, with an international presence, is a themed event that will spotlight pandemic preparedness, pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions / immune responses, vaccines and antivirals. The symposium is occurring predominantly for half of each day, with a free public panel forum scheduled for the first evening. In addition to keynote speakers, the symposium will also showcase local and national talent and provide trainees an opportunity to present their work in either an oral or poster format as selected from submitted abstracts.

We are excited to welcome our esteemed event keynote speakers, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove (World Health Organization) and Dr. Michael Houghton (2020 Nobel Laureate).

Public Forum — COVID Science: Cutting Through the Noise

Misinformation about COVID is having a tremendously adverse impact on public discourse, trust, beliefs and behaviours. It has led to deaths, hospitalization, increased stigma and discrimination, and confused health and science policy. How can we help the public cut through the noise and find credible information? How can we counter the misinformation on social media? Does the government need to do more to battle this infodemic?
Join us for an exciting public panel discussion!
