Donald Bellow

Position Summary/ Research Interest:

Professor Emeritus Donald G. Bellow Joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1963 having completed an MSc and PhD as the first Graduate Student in the newly formed Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. His research interests centered on the mechaincal behaviour of materials. He was Chairman of the Department from 1976 to 1985 and retired in 1996 having served five years as Associate Vice President (Facilities) and two years as Special Assistant to the Vice President Finance. In the late 60's he was involved in the planning of the Engineering Center and was in charge of the design and development of the new Mechanical Engineering Building. As Department Chairman he introduced the COOP education system to the Faculty of Engineering. In 1982 he was elected President of the Association of Professional Engineers Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. After retirement he became the President of the Association of Professors Emeriti of the University of Alberta. He continues to serve on comittees of APEGGA. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers and a Fellow of Engineering Canada. In 1982 he was awared L.C.

Charlesworth Award for Professional Service and granted a Honorary Life Memebership in 1986. He was a Director of the Engineers Canada (CCPE) from1987-1993.
