Mechanical Engineering

Application Deadlines

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in obvious economic uncertainty. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to doing its part to help those most severely affected and is pleased, therefore, to reopen its Fall 2020 course-based Master's (MEng) program to new applications from qualified domestic (citizen/permanent resident) applicants. Applications will be accepted until August1, 2020. Interested individuals must first contact the Associate Chair, Graduate, (chair.mecegrad@ualberta.ca) to discuss the process for applying. Qualified international applicants are encouraged to apply for the Winter 2021 intake (July 15 deadline).

With appropriate course selection, the MEng degree can be completed in as little as 12 months. Degree requirements include the completion of nine courses plus a 20-page capstone project consisting of a design project, literature review or research project.

Courses available to MEng students include those in the disciplinary field plus courses in engineering management, engineering safety and risk management, and technical courses selected from other engineering disciplines. Our programs also require professional development, which helps prepare graduates for high-level employment post-graduation.

The application deadlines indicated below are the recommended dates when a student should have a confirmation of support from one of our professors (MSc/PhD only) and the Required Supporting Documents uploaded into the online application system. Applicants are strongly advised to apply well in advance of the application deadlines. Plenty of time should be given for processing of applications and immigration/visas.
