The annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion and Society of Biblical Literature is the largest gathering of religion scholars in the world and among the largest scholarly congresses of any kind. This year?s meeting takes place in San Diego, November 17 ? 20. As usual, the University of Alberta?s Religious Studies Program will be well represented.

Some will give papers, including: Jean DeBernardi (Anthropology), ?Landscape, History, and Social Memory: Pilgrimage and Cultural Tourism to Wudang Mountain? (Sacred Space in Asia Group); Ehud Ben Zvi (History & Classics), ?Would Ancient Readers of the Books of Hosea and Micah Be ?Competent? to Read the Book of Jeremiah?? (Writing / Reading Jeremiah Group) and ?Reading Hosea and Imagining God? (Israelite Prophetic Literature Section); Willi Braun (History & Classics), ?From Loud Myth to Quiet Story: Transvaluations of Mark in the Second Century? (Redescribing Early Christianity Group).

Other members of the Program will participate as well: James Apple (Lecturer in Religious Studies); Francis Landy (History & Classics); and Sarah Rollens (MA scholar, Religious Studies).

In addition two of our distinguished MA graduates, now doing doctoral work elsewhere, are presenting papers: Danielle Lefebvre (University of Toronto), ?In and Out of Feminism: Defining the Terms for the North American Study of Women in Buddhism? (Buddhist Critical-Constructive Reflection Group); and Ken Ristau (Penn State University), ?Nehemiah 5 and the Economic Conditions in Yehud? (Literature and History of Persia Group).
