Research

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta strives to be an international leader in generating, applying and disseminating new medical knowledge for the benefit of all. As such, research is given high priority and is fully integrated with teaching and clinical activities.

With support from Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions, the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, other government organizations, charitable foundations and the private sector, the faculty has attracted many world-class investigators. Together, they have created a vibrant environment for basic and applied research.

Outstanding areas of medical research at the University of Alberta include diabetes, obesity, virology, heart disease, motor control and rehabilitation, protein structure and function, and transplantation. The faculty attracted $194 million in research funding in 2014/2015.
