Scarfe is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a specialist in Internal Medicine with subspecialty training in Medical Oncology. He has been a Medical Oncologist at the Cross Cancer Institute since 2001.
He coordinates the MED 525 (Introduction to Oncology) course for Undergraduate Medical Education.

· Education of patients, trainees (e.g.: medical residents, medical students), and physicians.
· Phase III clinical trials and outcomes research.
· Development of the clinical practice guidelines for the Provincial Gastrointestinal Tumor Group.
