About Me

Dr. Gourishankar graduated (cum laude) from the University of Alberta Medical School after which she completed a residency in Internal Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Following completion of her nephrology fellowship at the University of Alberta, Dr. Gourishankar undertook a 2 year clinical research fellowship in kidney transplantation and completed her Masters of Science in Epidemiology at Harvard University.  She has held a clinical investigator award from the Alberta Heritage Foundation and research grants with the NIH, CIHR and University Hospital foundation. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology and Transplantation Immunology at the University of Alberta and the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Professionalism for the MD program. She is also the Director of the Kidney Transplant Fellowship training program. She has been invited nationally and internationally to give lectures on her research of health outcomes of kidney transplant recipients.  She maintains a busy clinical practice in general nephrology and kidney transplantation.
