Collaborative Activities

The Division of Community Engagement embraces the University of Alberta's mandate to increase research capacity by reaching out to knowledgeable partners within multiple institutions. Potential partners include non-governmental organizations (NGOs), trust groups, government, indigenous and ethnic communities, and the general public.

The rich interprofessional and intersdisciplinary partnerships developed on campus will be mutually beneficial for faculty members, community partners and students. These partnerships can help address community needs and opportunities for improved health services, the ultimate goal of all health-sciences faculties at the University of Alberta.

The division provides a public service when it engages in outreach activities. By disseminating information to the public, potential partners gain awareness of the faculty's desire to participate in the improvement of their communities' conditions.

Knowledge transference is recognized as an essential activity for:

  • Economic and social improvement
  • Sharing intellectual property
  • Establishing and sustaining NGOs
  • Designing new and effective interventions or public policies
