Congratulations to the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry’s 2017 Alumni Award recipients. Join us on Monday, September 25 for the Alumni Awards Ceremony to celebrate their contributions to our community.
The newest additions
The FoMD commends the class of 2017 in all five undergraduate programs, as well as the convocates from our graduate programs and welcomes them to our family of alumni.
Lindsay Orser, ‘17 DDS, earned the 2017 Alberta Premier’s Silver Medal. The medal is awarded to the student with the highest overall performance within medicine, dentistry, law and pharmacy. Read her story here.
Ryan Reid, ‘17 MD, was presented with the Dr. F. Lloyd Roberts Scholarship and the Moshier Memorial Gold Medal, awarded to a student with superior academic achievement who is deemed to be the most outstanding convocating student in the MD program.
Lexa Fraser, ‘17 MD, won the Francis Norman Fallis Memorial Award in Medicine, awarded to the female student with the highest academic standing in the graduating class.
David Chapman, ‘17 MD, received the John W. Scott Honor Award, presented to a convocating student(s) who demonstrated qualities of scholarship, leadership, and character, exhibited over the four years of the medical program.
Chelsea Martin, ‘17 BSc (MLS), received the H.B. Collier Memorial Gold Medal, awarded annually to a student graduating from Medical Laboratory Science on the basis of superior academic achievement.
Christine Granley, ‘17 BSc (MLS), was honoured with the Barbara Motyl Award, offered annually to a graduating student on the basis of superior academic achievement, general proficiency and extra-curricular activities.
Sarah Sy, ‘17 BSc (MLS), is the recipient of the University of Alberta Hospital Laboratory Medicine & Pathology Staff Scholarship for a student graduating with distinction from the BSc program in Medical Laboratory Science.

Tim McGaw, '91 MD, was awarded the Dental Students Association’s Best Lecturer Award.
Rose Yeung Laiwah, '03 BSc(Hons), '07 MD, was recognized as a Regional Outstanding Healthcare Professional from Diabetes Canada (Alberta).
Darren Freed, '98 MD, and Jayan Nagendran, '01 MD, '09 PhD, were honoured with an Alberta Venture Prize for their company Tevosol. The Venture Prize awards the province’s most promising early-stage technology ventures.
Steffane McLennan, '16 BSc(Hons), is the 2017 Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate, as well as the Walter H. Johns Graduate.
