Alumni Awards & Accolades

Amil Shapka, ‘90 DDS, earned the 2017 Senator's Contribution Award. This award is to recognize those who make quiet contributions thru exceptional work in their local community.

James Silvius, ‘84 MD, was presented with the 2017 CMA’s Dr. William Marsden Award in Medical Ethics, which is “presented to recognize a CMA member who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, commitment and dedication to the cause of advancing and promoting excellence in the field of medical ethics in Canada.” Silvius played a key role in creating Alberta’s doctor-assisted dying framework following a 2015 Supreme Court ruling that paved the way for the practice. Silvius helped create a process that is now being replicated in other provinces. Read his story here.

Denis Vincent,‘87 MD, and daughter Andree Vincent (Medical and MBA student at the University of Alberta) were rewarded the Edmonton CNE Innovation award and go on to compete at next month's CNE innovation garage main competition in Toronto. Read his story here.
