History of Medicine Research Group Essay Prizes

History of Medicine Essay Prize for Students in Undergraduate Medical Education in the FoMD

 
This prize is presented for the best scholarly essay pertaining to the history of medicine. The prize is supported by a donation from the Alberta Medical Foundation.
The prize winner will receive $500.00 and a certificate of recognition. The recipient will be offered the opportunity to have the winning paper posted on the HOM page of the FoMD website.
  • Open to students in undergraduate medical education in the FoMD
  • Submission must be original unpublished work developed and completed by a student during the time the student was registered as an undergraduate in the FoMD
  • Scholarly papers on any issue of history of medicine are welcome.
  • The manuscript must not exceed 5000 words, excluding the bibliography.
  • Papers must be written and submitted by a single author.
  • Submissions for the prize must be in PDF format accompanied by an introductory letter and curriculum vitae of the author.
  • Submissions will be adjudicated by a panel appointed by the FoMD History of Medicine Advisory Committee. Adjudication will be based on the following criteria:
  • Relevance and originality (30%)
  • Quality of literature review (20%)
  • Quality of historical analysis (40%)
  • Presentation (i.e. quality of writing) (10%)

History of Medicine Essay Prize for Residents and Fellows in Postgraduate Medical Education and Graduate Students in the FoMD

 
This prize is presented for the best scholarly essay pertaining to the history of medicine. The prize is supported by a donation from the Alberta Medical Foundation.
The prize winner will receive $500.00 and a certificate of recognition. The recipient will be offered the opportunity to have the winning paper posted on the HOM page of the FoMD website.
  • Open to residents and fellows in PME or graduate students in the  FoMD
  • Submission must be original unpublished work developed and completed by the resident or fellow or graduate student during the time they were enrolled in PME or as a graduate student in the FoMD
  • Scholarly papers on any issue of history of medicine are welcome.
  • The manuscript must not exceed 5000 words, excluding the bibliography.
