For now, here is a peek at this year's schedule!
March 16, 2018:
11:00am-12:30pm - Join us for a welcome lunch, registration, and a greeting from our department leaders. After this, Ms. Mirella Chiodo (CBAS Director, Quality Supervisor, and Alberta AIM faculty) will lead:
1:00-3:00pm: An Exercise in Colour
This is a fun and insightful workshop about team effectiveness and how to leverage team members’ strengths.
Your input into a faculty development needs assessment would be appreciated upon conclusion of this workshop. The evening is free for you and your family to enjoy our inspiring learning environment of Jasper.
March 17, 2018:
8:00-8:30am - We will start the day with a light breakfast followed by two morning workshops held in conjunction with our family medicine residents:
1. 8:45-10:00am: Alberta’s Evolving Practice Environment – Dr L. Green (Chair,Department of Family Medicine)
As the primary care practice environment in Alberta is constantly changing, this workshop includes a review ofwhat primary care systems are currently in place and what could be different by the time our residents graduate. During this workshop, explanations of reasons for change, dispelling myths, and discussion related to concerns will be addressed.
2. 10:15-11:15am: What an App-ortunity! – Dr. F. Janke (Director, Rural and Regional Health)
This interactive workshop will highlight medical apps that can be used in teaching and learning in clinical environments. Participants are welcome to suggest apps that they have also used in medical teaching and learning environments.
Following these workshops, the Fairmont Signature brunch will be held, an annual FREzER highlight.
In the afternoon, faculty will have two sessions:
1. 1:00-2:15pm: The Peer Coaching Gear – All of us will lead this together!
While our Family Medicine residents are learning in small groups and being taught by members of our faculty, participating faculty in this workshop will engage in a peer coaching exercise with these small group teachers. A short discussion of peer coaching techniques in our department will follow. Be ready for an associated treasure hunt with a St. Patrick’s Day theme!
2. 2:15-3:30pm: Just Watch Me - Ms. Mirella Chiodo (CBAS Director and Quality Supervisor), and Dr. Sudha Koppula (Faculty Development Director)
This workshop will address the need for direct observation with our learners, techniques to accomplish direct observation in various teaching contexts, and implications for patient and learner privacy. Participants are encouraged to bring examples of their own.
In the evening, Dr Green will host the Chair's party for all faculty (and family) as appreciation for your ongoing teaching efforts. Thank you!
