AI to Advance Health & Wellness with a Focus on Improving the Care of Older Adults
Many older Canadians want to live at home as long as they can. With age, more physical, social, mental, and health issues can occur. This can cause people to become frail and at risk of falls, disability, going to the hospital, or even dying. But frailty is not inevitable and with proactive detection and management it can be prevented.
Having the ability to detect individuals at risk of functional decline or frailty early will empower care providers, and individuals at risk to implement healthy aging strategies, and make the necessary changes to prevent or slow the progression of frailty, and improve functional ability and independence.There is a growing number of repositories of health-related data (e.g. electronic medical records, health monitoring devices) that can support the creation of a dynamic frailty model. Currently there is not a comprehensive model in place.
This early-stage venture looks to analyze available multi-platform data for proactive frailty identification, and trigger appropriate interventions and to promote functional ability and healthy ageing. This digital health solution will enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery and make medicine more personalized and precise.
Click&Push Accessibility Inc. is a social enterprise dedicated to increasing the ease of personal mobility for all by providing technology capable of improving accessibility and creation of inclusive communities. Our main project involves launching an accessibility mapping app, called The Atlas, that combines subjective user experience information and objective exertion data.

Approximately, 10-20 per cent (13 to 26 million) of infants worldwide require neonatal resuscitation at birth. Unfortunately, approximately 1 million of these infants die annually worldwide at birth during neonatal resuscitation. Not following the correct resuscitation algorithm is responsible for approximately 60-70 per cent of these deaths. Therefore, adequate training in how to provide neonatal resuscitation is vital to reduce mortality and improve the health of these infants.
The current neonatal resuscitation training uses a mannequin, specialized equipment and instructors trained in simulation education. This approach of training neonatal resuscitation is time and cost intensive and not routinely offered in any health-care facilities in Canada or around the world. Furthermore, refresher training sessions are necessary for skill retention (minimum every six months), which are further cost-prohibitive. In addition, rural areas struggle with a lack of instructors and therefore might be not able to provide any training at all or only on a very infrequent basic. However, if health-care providers are proper trained in neonatal resuscitation the number of deaths due to not following the correct resuscitation algorithm would be significantly reduced.
