“The value of an idea lies in the using of it.” (Thomas A Edison, 1847 – 1931)
Every day, researchers in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry generate ideas and discoveries that can significantly impact human health and well-being. Challenges lie, however, in ensuring that such discoveries and technologies are transported through the necessary development pathways that allow them to be used within health systems.
The faculty’s innovation portfolio’s strong mandate is to support faculty members and trainees to translate their research findings into new technologies and processes that solve health and societal problems.
Our faculty is focusing on Precision Health as a model to anchor the creation of new products and processes that will transform care. We are coordinating and increasing our commercialization capabilities through new entrepreneurship programs, a health technology incubator and health accelerator activities.
In addition to building and linking our health innovation infrastructures, we are creating a vibrant innovation culture within the Faculty. Our emerging network of innovation mentors, seasoned entrepreneurs, and business and industry leaders will bolster our innovation community into realizing the full potential of their discoveries.
Together, we are driving innovation forward at an accelerated pace, towards new solutions for patient care and better health outcomes.
