Researching Resilience

Professor Linda Carrol in the School of Public Health is using her research to help people cope with MS. She studies psychological factors such as pain and coping mechanisms in chronic conditions, including MS. “It’s wonderful we’re working on a cure but we also need to be able to help people cope with it.”

Carrol says the cadre of MS researchers working at the University of Alberta and the high rate of MS in the province draws other MS researchers here. “We mustn’t work in isolation,” says Carrol. “I need people who have expertise in the biology of MS because I don’t have that background. Working together improves the research, is more practical and attracts more researchers.”
