National and International Recognition

Steven Caldwell, Department of Medicine, was appointed fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London.


Brian Holroyd, '79 BMedSc, '81 MD, Department of Emergency Medicine, received the Order of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine Fellowship.


Carlos Flores Mir, School of Dentistry, received the Houston Research Award for best poster at the 2018 European Orthodontic Society Meeting, alongside co-researchers from Naples, Italy.


John B. Dossetor, Professor Emeritus, Department of Medicine, has been awarded the 2018 CMA Medal of Service for his contributions to Canadian medical care. Read more.


Cara Bablitz, '11 MD, Department of Family Medicine, has been awarded the 2018 Canadian Medical Association Award for Young Leaders (Early Career Physician Category) for her work with vulnerable Indigenous populations.


James Shapiro, '01 PhD, Department of Surgery and Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI), received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Diabetes Canada. Read more.


Patrick MacDonald, Department of Pharmacology and Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI), received the Diabetes Canada Young Scientist Award.


Specialty Awards

Loren Kline, School of Dentistry, received a Faculty of Science 2018 Student's Choice award.


Shelley Ross, Department of Family Medicine, received a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant, in support of a collaborative project with UBC examining the self-regulated learning behaviours in residents in competency-based medical education.


Joel Berube, '07 MD, Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, was voted 2018 Teacher of the Year by the Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine residents.


Jessica Foulds, Department of Pediatrics, was awarded 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year Award for a General Pediatrician, and the Promotion of Resident Well-Being Award by the general pediatric residents. (image provided)


Dax Rumsey, Department of Pediatrics, was awarded the 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year Award for a Subspecialty Pediatrician by the general pediatric residents. (image provided)


2018 Kaye Fund

An annual competition and a collaboration between the University Hospital Foundation, the University of Alberta Hospital site and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, the award is funded by a generous donation from Mr. Donald Kaye. The Edmonton Early Psychosis Intervention Clinic (EEPIC) received the 2018 AHS President's Award for Outstanding Excellence in Patient and Family Centred Care. Students, Residents and Trainees

Catherine Cheng, resident in the Department of Psychiatry, has been awarded a 2018 Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry Subspecialty Resident Award.


Raisa Canda, PhD student, School of Dentistry, (supervisors Maria Febbraio, Liran Levin) won the CIHR Silver Prize for her poster presentation at the Canadian Student Health Research Forum in Winnipeg from June 12 to 15, 2018.


Mackenzie Lees, '13 MD, resident in the Department of Surgery, won a Royal College/JGME Top Resident Research paper entitled Factors affecting the development of confidence during surgical residency training.
