Other Health Professions Programs

The benefits of the arts and humanities are increasingly being recognized across health professions education programs. Arts and humanities perspectives are increasingly being integrated in the FoMD’s Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Medical Lab Sciences and Radiation Therapy programs to enhance interpretive and observational skills, and promote better communication and teamwork, as well as resilience and empathy.

In 2019-20, AHHM introduced a new interprofessional 1-credit course elective entitled “Transforming Healthcare by Design” open to students in health sciences programs, as well as students enrolled in arts/design programs, and other programs outside of health science. Additional interprofessional AHHM elective opportunities are currently being explored for students enrolled in health sciences programs at the University of Alberta.
