Evidence-based strategies for writing

Our presenter, Karen Schriver, is a passionate advocate for people-centered communications. She consults and carries out research on information design, plain language, and user-centered design. Her book, Dynamics in Document Design, in its 9th printing, has been called a classic. Winner of 13 national and international awards, Schriver has influenced the thinking of information designers around the world.

Schriver employs research-based principles to inform the design of everyday communications. She brings together the latest research on how people engage with web sites, instructions, forms, reports, educational materials, and marketing communications. She has taught at Carnegie Mellon Univ., the Univ. of Utrecht (Netherlands), the Univ. of Washington (Seattle, Washington), the Univ. of Stellenbosch (South Africa), and the Univ. of Gothenburg (Sweden).

In this workshop, we will learn the researched-based principles needed to make our writing more effective. We will be able to diagnose poorly written guidelines and will be taught the tools needed to revise documents for simplicity, clarity and technical accuracy
