Having meaningful weight management conversations

How can we arrive at patient-clinician interaction that offers conversation, not just information, and care, not just choice?

To answer this question the 5AsT of Obesity Management in collaboration with the Lifelong Learning office engaged in two co-creation activities with patients, primary care physicians and healthcare providers. Co-creation is human-centred and participatory approach, where participants use tools to provide feedback and collaborate in the creation of the solutions.

Design's strengths in people centred and collaborative methodologies provided an understanding of how patients and providers use tools to arrive at meaningful conversations, and revealed the challenges to create shared-decision making tools to reflect the reality of multiple health problems (physical, mental and social) that patients have. Tools that will help healthcare providers to understand what matters most to patients in the difficult circumstances they are living.
