Important Dates

October 1
  • Deadline for initial application. University of Alberta electronic application form filled out fully with the $130.00 application fee for University of Alberta students or $180.00 application fee for non-University of Alberta applicants.
  • Deadline for Secondary Medicine Application and supporting documents. Complete all information required online and submit your secondary application.
  • Deadline for receipt of Reference Letters (x2) electronically through the Secondary Medicine Application.
  • Deadline for verification of Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) results.
  • Official transcripts. Official transcripts of all post-secondary education completed with current Fall/Winter registration indicated sent to our Registrar’s Office. Transcripts must be submitted to our Registrar’s Office directly from the issuing institutions. 
  • Failing to meet any of the above requirements by October 1 will result in the closure of your file.

February 1
  • Official transcripts. Official transcripts with results of the Fall Term received in the Registrar’s Office of the University of Alberta.

March 18 & 19, 2017
  • Interviews for applicants for 2017.

May 15
  • Results of the current admissions process will be sent to all interviewed applicants as agreed to at Association of the Faculties of Medicine in Canada Standing Committee on Admissions.  Please note that all schools have agreed to an acceptance date of late May for those receiving an offer of admission. An offer of admission is conditional upon receipt of a current Police Information Check for the applicant receiving an offer of admission and meeting all other conditions.

June 15

  • Final transcripts of current year. Submit final transcripts for the current year’s courses you have just completed to the MD Admissions Office as soon as they are available. We do not accept final transcripts provided by the applicant even if they are in a sealed envelope. Transcripts must be submitted to us directly from the issuing institutions.
  • Thesis defended and complete with supporting documents sent to the MD Admissions Office.
  • TOEFL/TSE (Test of English Fluency/Test of Spoken English) if required.

July 2016
  • Application opens to apply for admission to the MD program for September 2017.

August 29, 2016
  • Orientation and classes begin for the Class of 2020.

August 27, 2017

  • Orientation and classes begin for the Class of 2021.
