Objectives: |
The shadowing and 12h electives in Surgery for Years 1 and 2 are intended to compliment the student's studies in the basic understanding of the body in health and disease, and to equip them with some of the skills with which they can start to interact with patients. They will be introduced to the OR setting and the safety procedures that surround the environment by scrubbing in to a case and reviewing aseptic techniques with OR nurse educators. Students will also be able to observe and participate in patient care in a clinic setting focusing on the role of surgery and surgeons in the health care system. Students will gain an understanding of the role of surgery in the treatment of disease and in trauma settings. |
