Overview:

This 12-hour elective introduces students to the concepts and applications of quality measurement in clinical practice.  Using the Health Quality Council of Alberta’s data concerning Alberta and common clinical scenarios in family practice, students will be expected to collaboratively develop evidence-based frameworks for the adjudication of the quality of medical service provision.

International quality assessment data will be used as reference points to develop a quality improvement strategy for Alberta.
Objectives:
  1. Participants will learn about health systems and health professional resource planning
  2. Participants will determine the difference between measures and measures that matter from a clinician’s perspective.
  3. Participants will be able to compare and contrast the capacity of medical services using international data from countries comparable to Canada.
Additional Notes: Prerequisites:  An interest in how quality is measured and how measurement might be approved.
