Overview:

Introduces you to the evaluation and treatment of heart disease, with special emphasis on ischemic heart disease. Gives you the opportunity to participate in the care of patients with acute cardiac conditions, including acute myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, acute and chronic heart failure, unstable angina, etc. Gives you extensive exposure to echocardiography, interventional techniques including hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac catheterization and angiography, PTCA and intra-aortic balloon pump and pacemakers.

Objectives:

Completing this elective should enable you to develop, primarily, both your clinical knowledge in cardiovascular medicine with some limited hands-on opportunity for technical skills.

Additional Notes:

Successful completion of the Internal Medicine rotation prior to this elective.
