Overview:

The student works with the Department of Family Medicine to arrange an elective experience, which will broaden their exposure to Generalist Family Medicine with opportunities in Reproductive and Sexual Health.

Objectives:

This is a 2-week elective open to 3rd and 4th year medical students. This elective is ideal for those students who want to see the breadth of Family medicine and develop their clinical skills.   

During this elective, students will work with a Family Physician whose practice affords opportunities in Reproductive Health.  These experiences are opportunistic and not guaranteed, but may include:  

  • prenatal care/deliveries
  • IUD insertions
  • endometrial biopsies
  • contraceptive/fertility counselling
  • hormone replacement therapy
  • immediate postpartum care
  • diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
