Overview: |
The scope of testing includes: bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, and mycobacteriology. This will give the student ample opportunity to see a wide variety of processes and procedures associated with the practice of medical microbiology. Instructors also have unique expertise in antimicrobial agent utilization, infection prevention and control, and laboratory management. |
Objectives: |
To introduce the student to the practice of microbiology. To help the student understand the correlation of clinical information and laboratory test results. |
Additional Notes: | Submission of elective requests at least three months before the elective date. In order to utilize all available elective times, priority will be given to earlier applications. Students are to apply as early as possible. When more than one student applies at the same time for the same elective period, medical students from the University of Alberta will be given priority over students applying from other centres in Canada. NetCare access required for this elective. Connect Care access may be required for this elective. |
