Overview: The student would obtain experience in the medical, emotional and logistical aspects of the management of chronic kidney disease, including peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and kidney transplants. He/She would see problems of nephrology on the wards and in the clinic. He/She will be encouraged to make clinicopathologic correlations between renal biopsies and the clinical course of the biopsied patient. Clinical electrolyte, acid/base disorders and urinary sediment abnormalities in different renal disease states will also be addressed.
Objectives:

A full exposure to clinical nephrology (may include pediatric nephrology).

Additional Notes:

Students must have completed their Internal Medicine rotation prior to doing a Nephrology elective.
