Overview:

Opportunities are available to senior students to perform medical duties and services, or carry out specific assignments in the north as considered necessary, or appropriate. Students will be based in the Inuvik General Hospital, and will be assigned to one staff physician who will act as preceptor.

Objectives:

Completing this elective should enable you to:

  • obtain a wide range of clinical experience
  • obtain exposure to a different environment and to different cultures

Specific opportunities may include:

  • out-patient clinics
  • medivacs
  • settlement visits (i.e. Fort McPherson, Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk)
  • in-patient care
Additional Notes:

Preference is given to final year students who have completed their rotations in medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology. Student's application will be supported through the Department of Family Medicine. Positions are very limited. No funding is available for travel to Inuvik and accommodations will also be the responsibility of the student. Assistance is provided to acquire non-commercial and/or affordable accommodations. A meal card is provided by the hospital for the duration of the elective.
