Overview:

Largely General Obstetrics and Gynecology in a hospital setting at Sturgeon Community Hospital, located NW of Edmonton in St Albert.  Electives limited due to the consideration of Program Students on rotation and are only accepted for students with a keen interest in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Objectives:

Completing this elective should:

  • help develop clinical skills, judgement and knowledge in assessing and diagnosing patients with obstetrical or gynecological problems
  • help develop the student's skills at performing a variety of assessments and procedures

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate medical student in Canadian institutions who has keen interest in O&G
  • For student from 4-year programs, completion of a minimum of three years of medical school, prior to the requested date of elective
  • For students from 3-year programs, completion of a minimum of two years of medical school, prior to the requested date of elective
  • Submission of requests for elective (Internal University of Alberta students) at least 3 months before the requested elective date
  • Submission of requests for elective (External Applications) at least 6 months before the requested elective date

Priority Policy:  In order to utilize all available elective times, priority will be given to earlier applications.  Students are to apply as early as possible.  When more than 1 student applies at the same time for the same elective period, medical students in the University of Alberta Medicine Program will be given priority over students applying from other centres in Canada.

Notice to Visiting Students: NETCARE ACCESS IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ELECTIVE

Netcare - Students MUST request access for Netcare A MINIMUM OF 6 WEEKS before the elective start date. If an elective is available and officially confirmed through the AFMC Student Portal, students will receive more information on how to request access in their confirmation email.
