Overview:

The PICU at Stollery Children's Hospital is a quaternary level center caring for both medical and surgical patients.  We have 15 staffed beds cared for by an interdisciplinary team.  All forms of critical illness are managed including ECLS and solid organ transplantation.  It is a Level One Trauma center.  The Stollery Children's Hospital is also a referral center for the Western Canadian Children's Heart Network and is the second busiest congenital heart surgery program in Canada. Another 15 staffed beds are thus located in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU (PCICU).

Objectives:

Introduction to the management of critically ill children.
Requirement - Year 3 core pediatric rotation completed

Additional Notes:

3rd year medical students who have completed their core pediatrics rotation and 4th year medical students are welcome and will be assigned stable patients (at the attending physician's discretion).
