Title: Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
Location: Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Some time may be spent at the Stollery Hospital but PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ELECTIVE IS NOT PRIMARILY LOCATED AT THE MAIN PEDIATRIC TRAINING. (STOLLERY) SITE
Duration: A standard elective is two weeks in length, however alternate arrangements may be considered upon request. Maximum 4 weeks

Overview The Glenrose Hospital is home to the Divisions of Developmental Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation which share the responsibility for the clinical and educational support for Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. The Glenrose Hospital has the highest concentration of fellowship trained Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine specialists in the country covering a wide breadth of conditions impacting the physical and neurological functions of children. The learner will be exposed to a combination of inpatient and outpatient environments providing rehabilitation care to patients with:
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Brain injury
  • Spina Bifida
  • Neuromuscular Diseases
  • Brachial Plexus Injuries
Clinical experiences may include outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, botulinum toxin injections, gait lab and inpatient rehabilitation.
Additional Notes: It is usual to have some unscheduled time on this elective. This time may be used for independent study, observation of patients in therapy, or other initiatives to fulfill your individual learning goals. There may be the opportunity to participate in scheduled teaching sessions. Learners are welcome to attend the PM&R academic half day Friday mornings.
