Overview:

The elective will consist of participation in the outpatient (pediatric cardiology clinics) and possibly the inpatient (consult and ward service) clinical activities of the pediatric cardiology program. The setting of this elective will provide an encompassing experience with exposure to the different and exciting fields in pediatric cardiology, with a main focus around general cardiology and post-operative care, but also including the subspecialty fields of echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, heart failure, transplantation, etc. The elective will also involve formal and informal teaching sessions.

Objectives:

Completing this elective will allow the student to build a rewarding level of knowledge in congenital heart disease, including an advanced understanding of the patho-physiology and clinical presentation of different congenital heart diseases. The elective will also expose the student to the clinical practice of pediatric cardiology, including the evaluation and management of pediatric patients with operated and unoperated congenital and acquired heart disease.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites required in order to do an elective in Pediatric Cardiology.
