Overview: This elective will provide an opportunity for the student to study basic principles of pediatric oncology in a Multi--disciplinary team setting. Both inpatient and outpatient experience is available
Objectives:
  1. Develop skills in assessment of pediatric patients
  2. Develop skills in pediatric history taking in the subspecialty setting
  3. Become familiar with common pediatric oncology diagnoses
  4. Become familiar with the work-up and investigations for new pediatric oncology patients
  5. Develop skills in managing complex pediatric medical patients
  6. Learn to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting

RECOMMENDED READINGS:

  • Manual of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology - Lanzkowsky 5th Edition, 2005.

Additional Notes:

Students must have completed their core pediatric rotation for this elective.

Minimum elective time is 2 weeks.

Electives are subject to availability of preceptors. Previously scheduled students in core rotations will be given priority over electives.
