Overview:

Students will attend and participate in pediatric palliative care consults, complex decision-making, and symptom management. There may be opportunities to attend home visits and observe end-of-life care both in the home and hospital environment.

Objectives:

The student will, at the end of the elective, have a good general knowledge of the scope of pediatric palliative care as a specialty. They will be able to observe and when appropriate, participate in challenging conversations. They will gain knowledge of the pathophysiology of pain syndromes and the rationale utilized to address complex symptom management.

Additional Notes:

Suitable for Year 3 students who have completed their core pediatric rotation.

Electives are subject to availability of preceptors. Previously scheduled students in core rotations will be given priority over electives.
