Overview: Students choosing an elective in Diagnostic Imaging will spend 1-2 weeks in the department. Elective students follow a general rotation during their time here; however, there is some time for tailoring it to their particular needs. Once the elective is confirmed, students are asked to provide goals and objectives, beforehand, to the medical student coordinator. Students from the University of Alberta or University of Calgary completing a two week elective, may be granted PACS access. This access is to gain increased exposure to the life of a Radiologist or Resident.
Objectives: The intention is to introduce elective students to the broad field of radiology and to correlate radiological situations with their clinical counterparts. An understanding of the basic radiological approach to various problems and the role of radiology as a diagnostic tool, as well as potential hazards of radiological procedures will be covered.

The wide ranging aspects and capabilities of general radiology, together with its specialized subdivisions will be introduced to the elective student at a level concomitant with their medical training and knowledge.
Additional Notes: NetCare access required for this elective.
