Overview: | The Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta is a national leader in the field of surgical education. The purpose of this elective is to give medical students the opportunity to develop additional skills in education, and to provide them with training and experience in the application of online technology to teach medical students about surgery. This elective gives medical students the opportunity to develop additional skills in education and to provide them with training and experience in the application of online technology to teach medical students about surgery. The goal of this course is to foster discussion and encourage students to explore and apply methods of instructional and curriculum design in relation to online teaching and learning. |

The assigned readings, online learning and hands on sessions, will help students:

Additional Notes: |
Along with the application, send us a basic outline of the topics you wish to cover during your elective and how you would like to deliver them (eg. podcast, video, virtual patient). We will then work with you to develop outline scripts and a work plan for your elective so that you will be ready to start production on the first day of your elective. We may also assign a local faculty member to serve as a content expert to assist with the production and review process. NetCare access required for this elective.
