In a joint effort with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alberta, Medical Student’s Association and MD Ambassadors, medical students and Faculty volunteers will be running Asclepius Medical Camp for Youth. This initiative is targeted towards high school youth (grades 10, 11 or 12 students) from a variety of non-traditional backgrounds, primarily those of lower socioeconomic status. This camp will expose youth from populations that are currently under-represented in medical schools to the field of medicine to prove that medicine is a possible career, regardless of background. In the weeklong camp, students will learn clinical skills, solve medical cases, attend lectures, learn about financial planning, and get a chance to speak to medical students, physicians, and patients.
