White Coat Ceremony
The date of the White Coat Ceremony is Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 5PM.
Financial Education Talk
We know that finances probably aren't on the forefront of your mind right now, but it's definitely an important consideration in your journey into (and through) medicine. Join the Learner Advocacy and Wellness (LAW) Office on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 5PM in the Allard Theatre, 1-080 Katz Group Centre (main floor) for a Finances Talk. You can view the letter that was sent here.
If you are unable to attend this event, it will be recorded and available online here. Attendance is strongly encouraged if you're in Edmonton, and this is a great opportunity to meet some of your classmates and peers!
From Pre-Med to Med: Making the Transition to Medical School: A blog written by Dr. Mary Brandt at the Baylor College of Medicine. Check out the PowerPoint presentation Dr. Brandt used in her talk here.
How to Join the Facebook Group
Step 1. Join the University of Alberta Community. You can do so by clicking on this link, and entering your UAlberta email address to verify that you are a student of the University of Alberta. (This is your CCID@ualberta.ca)
Step 2. Go to your UAlberta email to find the verification email sent by Facebook. You may be asked to enter a verification code or hit a "confirmation" button.
Step 3. Find the Facebook Group: "University of Alberta Medicine: Class of 2022" and click the "+Join" button. A request for access to the Facebook page will be sent to the admins for approval.
Step 4. Await approval. Typically our response rate is fast, so you won't be waiting long. If you don't get approval to join the group within 24 hours, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
I'm not receiving an email! What do I do? There are a few things that could be going wrong here. But here are the solutions we've found thus far:
- Check your spam folder! Sometimes these emails are sent to the wrong folder or mistakenly detected as spam.
- Check your "categories" tab, on the left hand side of the page. Sometimes Gmail will detect and sort your emails into these different categories and it may have gone unnoticed. (This is similar to the "spam" folder, though not all individuals will have this as an option).
- Try resending the email. If you aren't receiving the email - try going back to the UAlberta Community Facebook page to ensure you entered your UAlberta email correctly!
- If this doesn't work, try having the email sent to your CCID@gmx.ualberta.ca ; this is an alias for your email address. We have found that sometimes using this alias has allowed individuals not receiving the email, to receive it!
I can't join the Facebook page! It keeps telling me there is an error. Often, this is a result of not having verified your UAlberta email address. Because the University of Alberta Medicine: Class of 2022 group is a subset of the UAlberta community, we are unable to add anyone who has not verified this email with Facebook! Please see the above steps for verifying your email. If this is still not working, please shoot us an email
Do I have to join the Facebook page? I don't like using Facebook. No! There is definitely no requirement to join this Facebook page. It is used to help communicate between yourself and your classmates, in addition to individuals from upper years. You can find used textbooks, volunteering opportunities, updates, and other resources here. We strongly recommend joining, but it is by no means mandatory, and we have had students in previous years do fine without. For the purposes of Orientation Week, we will send out all important information and reminders via email, and keep important dates and information on the website.
If you are having any trouble whatsoever, and this guide is not helping you, please shoot us an email. Additionally, if you find any workarounds, or tips that might be beneficial for other students, please let us know!
