What’s the difference between VCS (Virtual Computer Services) and VPN (Virtual Private Network)?

  • VCS allows you access to your virtual system from anywhere through a browser
  • VPN allows you to directly connect to your existing on-premise device

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)? Why do I need this?

  • MFA provides additional security controls when accessing VCS from off-site. This is similar technology to what banks use and supplements your password.

I don’t have a computer at home. Can I take home my work computer?

I’m a researcher, and I’ve heard cyber-criminals are targeting researchers’ servers and data. What can I do?

  • MedIT can help by providing the following free services:
    • Active security monitoring. MedIT’s firewall security tool can be setup to actively monitor any suspicious traffic on your devices.
    • Targeted security assessments. MedIT can utilize its security assessment tools on your storage medium to perform vulnerability assessments, penetration tests and diagnostic reporting. This means we can help identify threats and provide a prioritized risk mitigation strategy.
