Rural Funding

These scholarships support students with a focus on rural medicine:


John N. Hnatuik Rural Medical Student Bursary
This full scholarship is offered by RhPAP to medical students focusing on rural medicine. Once a student is admitted to the program, they will receive the bursary each year of study if the requirements are met.


ASRM Tarrant Scholarship
This scholarship honors Dr. Michael Tarrant, a family Calgary physician who championed rural medical education. He worked for better rural practices for Alberta's future physicians. It is awarded annually to a University of Alberta or University of Calgary medical student in their third year who demonstrates an interest in rural medicine.


NADC Bursaries for Medical Students
The Northern Alberta Development Council provides up to $12,000 over to the course of two years for medical students in their last two years of study who wish to work up in northern Alberta.


RhPAP Medical Student Award
RhPAP provides $5,000 for medical students at any point in their education. Up to two of these awards are available each year.
