Conference Presentation

Description

Presentation (paper or poster) at a professional conference, ideally a peer-reviewed venue. In addition to more high-profile professional conferences, students are encouraged to take part in graduate conferences, also preferably peer-reviewed.

Objectives

Identify relevant call for papers on appropriate advertising venues; write a strong, engaging abstract and participate in the peer-review process; develop a presentation and, where applicable, powerpoint/visual accompaniment; implement public performance techniques (organization of ideas, communication skills, time-management, body language, etc.).

Outcomes

A successful abstract; the delivery an effective public presentation (well-written, focused, and addressing cutting edge critical and theoretical debates in the chosen field); become familiar with advertising venues of scholarly events in the area(s) of expertise as well as with the important topics in the field, nationally and internationally.
