The aim of this course is to enhance students' practical language skills with a direct experience of Ukrainian life and culture. This course uses various current materials from contemporary popular culture and makes maximum use of the urban L'viv environment to expand vocabulary, comprehension, and functionality in the language. Further development of practical skills in Ukrainian is based on authentic texts from popular journals, newspapers, and other media. Students will engage in conversations, critical discussions, reading, and creative writing. Student will prepare presentations that are based on current events, aspects of popular culture, or any other topic pertaining to life in today’s Ukraine based on students’ interests. Classes (at the university, outings, and excursions) will be conducted primarily in Ukrainian.
Note: Students with advanced knowledge of Ukrainian who are interested in this travel study program may test their proficiency by contacting the instructor.
Standard University of Alberta tuition and fees apply. Additional costs including accommodation, meals, airfare and ground transportation, and excursions are estimated to be $4,500. Funding supports may be available and can be discussed with Dr. Nedashkivska.
