Music

Areas of Study

The Department of Music at the University of Alberta offers undergraduate and graduate programs in instrumental performance, choral and instrumental conducting, composition, theory, ethnomusicology, and musicology. Our academic programs focus on Western European and global music traditions, the study of musical structures, and the creation of new music.

Students from other academic backgrounds and disciplines are invited to explore our diverse areas of study and wide selection of open course offerings, which allow non-Music students to explore their passion for the study, appreciation and performance of music.
