Auditions for the 2018-19 Concerto Competition will take place on Tuesday Nov. 6, 2018 in Convocation Hall, starting at 5:00pm.
The performances are public. A jury will determine two winners:
- a soloist with the University Symphony Orchestra (date TBA)
- a soloist with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble (date TBA)
Eligibility: students enrolled in the BMus or BA (Music Major) programs, non-music majors enrolled in X24, X26, X27 at the Department, graduate students (MMus and DMus), and those who are enrolled (registered) in USO or SWE are all eligible to compete. Previous winners of the competition are not eligible to compete in consecutive years.
Register via email to email@example.com by 11:59pm on September 24. Your instructor must approve your entry and must be cc’d on the registration email.
The following information is needed upon registration:
- Program of study and year
- Work to be presented, movement(s)
- Duration of audition performance (+ / - 10 seconds)
- Accompanied by (pianist)
- Phone Number
- Indicate any scheduling restrictions on Nov. 6 2018
Each audition will be strictly limited to 18 minutes of music (full solos, do abbreviate long tutti sections). Memorization is compulsory. Winners are expected to perform the full works from memory in February.
Upon registration, ensemble directors will advise if a candidate’s work is likely not possible to program within the timeline or resources. A draft schedule will be circulated soon after the registration deadline.
Candidates will provide three (3) copies of the score to the coordinator before noon on the day of the audition. No written feedback on the performances will be provided. A decision will be announced after the last audition.
